all I can say is why?...the things they did in the old days to try and go faster...still find it all interesting though...

For that many cylinders...I've heard Honda's that sound tougher!

It may only have half as much cylinders but it's a record holder.
A little background: The bike is the incarnation of a comic m/c from the Werner-comics which are famous in Germany. The creator of these comics has a tendecy to build IRL what he draws together with his brother and several other sufficiently lunatic individuals. The most famous bikes are the Satte-Literschuessel (which is a mock of the German word for satellite dish but means "more than a litre jalopy" and is a 1.4l-thumper with "fully stressed engine", a wooden front fork and a shovel blade as seat) and the Red Porsche Killer which has four coupled Horex-single cylinder engines.
