When I asked at Detroit they said it would probably be the same weekend as last year. Using my shirt as a reference that would be the 22nd and 23rd of July.

Texas Autocross Weekend will coincide with the Carroll Smith Memorial Autocross held in July with the Texas Region SCCA. I am sure Dr. Woods will be posting something soon in regards to TAX Weekend.

I hope we can get a number of schools (and cars) running on track. If you can't bring a car, come anyways because it's a good time and nothing else quite like it.

So does that mean that theres an open seat in the '07 Oklahoma car...Cause, you know im always up for driving another teams formula car : )

That goes for you guys too UTA, even if its just the old 2005 car again...

Several people and a couple cars should be attending from Kansas this year as well.

I'm sure we can find a driver for SRT 07.

But our '05 car.... http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Everyone should drive a FSAE-plane-dirt track hybrid once in their lives.

UTA will be hosting the 7th annual "Texas Autocross Weekend" on 13 through 15 July 2007. The original intent was for Texas and Oklahoma schools to get together, but it has grown to a national event with schools from Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Ohio, Canada, Alabama, South Dakota etc. joining us for a weekend of pure FSAE. This is a time to let your hair down and share secrets and drive each other's cars.

The venue is an open house Friday afternoon at the UTA shop to view our fleet of 20 cars and to do any last minute repairs. Friday night we will have a social at my house to view videos and play games. Saturday will be a practice at UTA's big lot with a FSAE course in the morning and a SCCA-style course in the afternoon. Saturday night will be another get together sponsored by Texas Engineering Systems to hear about features of SolidWorks and Cosmos. On Sunday, we will attend the Texas Region's monthly autocross dubbed the "Carroll Smith Memorial" event in honor of Carroll and FSAE. This year, the SCCA autocross will be held at the Texas Motor Speedway on the infield course for qualified drivers.

Saturday's driving is open to anyone and will be timed by our local autocross club Equipe Rapide. SCCA will allow 2 or 3 drivers per car on Sunday.

It appears that this event will have more sponsorship, display cars, and more participation. See our reports on previous events on our website http://maepro.uta.edu/fsae/autox.html.

Please e-mail me directly if you intend to attend.

Awesome, it finally doesn't coincide with the MotoGP race- OU will make a strong appearance, with something so crazy, I can't even begin to imagine how crazy it will be.

There's been a practice event in Fontana for the past two years. I think this past year we had Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, UCSD, UC Irvine, and CSUN. More cars showed up the year before but I can't recall the count. Back in the day there was the West Coast Conference as well.

Texas Motor Speedway, Infield Course, I AM SOOOOOO THERE!

So far, I count OU w/ 2 cars, Kansas w/ 2, UTSA w/ 1+, the Aggies, and Wichita State. And at this point it looks like UT will be there w/ 3 cars. Plus however many of their own UTA runs. So that makes at least 13 or 14 cars thus far.

Sounds like another good event in the making! Looking forward to it!

To provide an idea of the topics for the Saturday evening presentation, here are some of the items we are considering:
1) Beams and Trusses - You can now perform beam element FEA analysis on Space Frames using Cosmos
2) Optimization - choose dimensions in SolidWorks and Cosmos will optimize for minimum mass while not exceeding stress or stiffness criteria
3)Modeling highlights in external aerodynamics, Fluid-structure Interaction, Impact testing, and Rubber behavior.

We look forward to everyone joining us for a chance to discuss these topics as well as any other SolidWorks or Cosmos areas of interest.

I should have done this a week ago but I just wanted to thank all the guys at UTA for the effort put into Texas Autocross Weekend. Everyone from the SD team had a great time- even if it was one heck of a drive. Also thanks for access to your shop, tools, and equipment- without your help we wouldn't have gotten near as much racing in!

The Texas Autocross Weekend was a great event this year with 25 cars and 90 drivers. Thanks to all of the sponsors and supporters that made it possible. Thank those of you who have posted kind words about the event.

UTA, Texas A&M, KU, and UT Austin were battling for the faster times on Saturday with other schools turning in really fast times as well.

You can see the full report with pictures and timing results on our website: http://maepro.uta.edu/fsae/autox/TxAutoX2007Summary.pdf
