This is a questonnaire about F.SAE damper, which is the topic of my thesis. Thank you for your attention and have a nice day to everybody.
-Do you feel the need of a new specific F.SAE damper? Do products on the market satisfy you?
-Which feature you consider the most important for a racing car damper?
-RELIABILITY
-PERFORMANCE
-LOW COST
-EXTERNALLY ADJUSTMENT
-SMALL SIZE
-POSSIBILITY TO MODIFY
INTERNAL SETTINGS
-LIGHT WEIGHT
-DESIGN
-For your car, which damper stroke range do you have(20/30-30/40-40/50-over 50mm)?
-In your opinion, what is the optimal radial size?
-What about the eye-to-eye length?
-How much is important the absence of the external reservoir?
-How many regulation ways would you like? And how many step for every way (20-35-50)?
-Would you like a regulation device that give you an instant vision of the set position?
-How much would you like it to cost?
-What is the weight target?
-Other notes or requirements?

Most of your questions are going to be heavily dependent on each team, what kind of suspension they are going to run, and their budget.
That being said we are using Cane creek's 4-way independent, 8.5 inch eye-eye dampers again this year. We were able to purchase them two years ago, and this will be the third car they are getting run on. The 8.5 inch length is pretty easy to package, has ~1.9 inches of travel ( 1:1 motion ratio ) light, very adjustable, but is a huge cost investment.
Anyway, this should be a good read for you then. I found it cause I'm doing a report for my fluids class. Yay relevant topics!

These types of questionnaires really don't lend themselves to FSAE in my opinion.

The authors of that paper, one other guy, and I worked for five years to develop a specific shock for FSAE. It has since developed into the Kaz/Penske 7800DB.
Barquero, as someone who spent years answering those exact questions, I will caution you as exFSAE has. FSAE students do not know enough about vehicle dynamics or dampers to give you meaningful answers to those questions.

Only doing this cause I did our dampers this year.
There are a few Dampers on the market that work close to what we need/want; however there is only one or two that completely fill the requirements.
1. Internal Settings (because we dont have a lot of time to dyno our dampers, we must be able to get pretty close to the desired setting when purchasing).
2. Reliability (all four have to perform the same, and they have to stay that way)
3. Stroke Length/size (we look for a stroke around 2-3 to give a motion ratio that we desire).
4. Weight (always a big deal with everything on the car)
5. Externally adjustment/possibility to modify (Externally adjustable is always nice, iff the adjustment actually does something noticeable and the adjustment is the same for every shock. Internally adjustable is mandatory for dampers that are not externally adjustable or do not meet the above externally adjustable criteria).
40/60 over 2.75
Eye-to-eye should be as short as possible and still have the desired stroke.
I would like high and low speed compression and rebound, each with around five steps
A regulation devise that clicks and has an indicator line up to dots or something in nice for repeatability.
Cost low as possible. Lower end shocks are around $150-$250 each and high end ones are around $500-$900.
Target weight is less than one pound.
I would like to reemphasize that all four dampers must perform the same, and they must stay that way through a season (or until the next rebuild).
