Hi.
Here at Oxford Brookes University, we're looking to develop motorsport exchange programmes with students and academics from the US and other countries.
You would come over to Motorsport Valley for perhaps two weeks, during which time you would stay for 3/4 days at four different UK motorsport universities. Projects and activities at a single institution would centre on a single theme (e.g. at Oxford Brookes, we have Geoff Goddard, the former Chief Engine Designer for Cosworth, teaching, so we would offer engine design).
The stay would include visits to local companies, (e.g. WilliamsF1, RenaultF1, Midland F1, Red Bull Racing, as well as Prodrive, Xtrac and Menard), and a cultural element, e.g. punting in Oxford.
It would be useful for us to gauge interest in this kind of initiative. Please email me or have a look at the Motorsport Knowledge Exchange website at
http://www.msportknowledge.ac.uk/
Thanks.
Mike

Wow, sounds really cool, is it free? lol.
<edit>
How much do you think it will cost? It sounds like a great idea, especially since you don't need to devote a whole semester or year. Being able to learn about engine design from Geoff Goddard (now that I know who he is) would be an experience of a life time. I'm sure there are many others who would provide very valuable information on other subjects as well. I'm interested, but again, the price will be a major factor.

I PM'd mike and asked for a bit more info, this was the reply:

In the first instance, we'd be looking at bring students/academics from overseas to the UK to see what we have here. There would, of course, be a cost to this...
In the fullness of time, we would like to see:
1) Students perhaps studying full-time here after maybe studying for one or two years in their own country.
2) Overseas academics coming to the UK so that there's an exchange of best practice and some cultural cross-fertilisation.
3) UK academics and students spending a year or so on an exchange programme overseas, with academics in particular providing some knowledge transfer into the institution hosting them.
This list is, of course, not exhaustive.
Also, we're in the process of developing some on-line motorsport material, for those interested in upskilling in particular subject areas e.g. Business for Motorsport, Data Acquisition etc. We'd be interested here to learn of other topics that students, academics and industry people might be interested in seeing developed as part of a growing online course portfolio.
