View Full Version : Freely available data logging software analysis programs (like i2)

I'm trying to find some info on the Wintax software used for the Magneti Marelli logger. I'm hoping to learn the software so I can pitch myself better in possible jobs with race teams.

I've found that not so many teams use Motec or i2 which is a shame really since Motec really supports students and young people in general.
Is the AIM software freely available or does it require to purchase a licence?

Does anybody know of other analysis softwares that are freely available? I know that the UK company RaceTechnology make the software freely available but use of their system is not massively widespread like say the Marelli.

Don't want to rant too long but I am a bit annoyed that some companies view their software as something you have to buy. Sure, for CAD it's the whole development of it but for loggers it's the hardware that you pay for. The software should be free to allow people to learn it.

I guess it's only my opinion but I think companies that make things freely available (or easy to crack LOL) do best. So praise to Motec, RaceTechnology and Bosch (for Lapsim basic).

Hope someone has some experience of some softwares and tips on how to get hold of them. I'm gonna do a round of calls anyway. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I've used Race-Technology's software and once you get over some of the quirks, it's pretty powerful. Not as slick as the Motec stuff, but it gets the job done. I'm happy with the V7 of their stuff, it's a lot more polished than previous ones.

the aim software (Race Studio) is free to download from their website.

What might be useful, is info on the data file formats for some of these free programmes?

The e-race software is what comes with the DTA ecus for data analysis. It can input ANY csv file and display it. I've used it a bit now, and it's really very easy to use. It's free to download off the link above.

Sort of off topic, but does anyone besides me hate AIM Sports software??

The 400% price difference between the MXL logger and ADL for practically the same hardware says a little something about the software in my opinion.

I'm with ya... for me it's less frustration to export the AIM file to a CSV, convert it into a MoTeC file and then play with it in I2 standard.

I didn't think you could convert CSV files into i2 standard.

If you'd like to fill me in I'd be much obliged!

not tried the Race Technology v7, only the v6 but at the time our car was rigged mainly with engine and transmission sensors so monitoring car performance was more down to having spotters along the track and driver feedback. i will check up on their website next week to see what changes they made.

As for the AIM software I opened it yesterday night, so I'll post a bit once I've opened some of the free data they include with it.

Why use i2 standard? They don't charge for the Pro...or is there some restriction built into the hardware??

Anyway, enough progs to look through for now. Cheers for the XAP link. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You can't use Pro unless you have Pro logging enabled on the ECU. There is also no way I know of to input any data into i2 other than a Motec log file, which is why I was curious to see if js10coastr figured out how to do it.

We offer a demo of our software, while it is not fully functioning it will allow you to do everything you need to learn the software suite.
