Come on guys, ease off on the sarcasm. MA and his team are trying to build a car in India, where R6's and the like are not even heard of. Their engine is imported, and the closest example of the donor bike is a good few thousand kilometres away. I think this is a perfectly reasonable question when you can't just walk down the street and check it yourself like we can.

Major Ashwa, if i can find an R6 parked on the street I'll take a look and let you know.

Cheers,

Geoff

Big Bird, thanks for looking at the question from our point of view as though the question wasn't ours we also face these kind of problems as again we are from india.

To the others i'd jsut appeal that if our questions seem just too ridiculus/juvenile you could just leave the post unanswered as your comments/sarcasm do not help us in any way. Better still, just for once, why don't you try to build your car in a place like Iran/Pakistan/India with the kind of resourses/facilities and budgets we are running on. then your sarcasm would be more than welcome.

Ashwa, on our R6, to check the inclination of the engine, we see whether the Yamaha written on the side of the engine is horizontal. i know its a bit odd way of doing it but i figure the Yamaha guys won't like their logo to be tilted or awkwardly placed anywhere on the bike. also the FZ-6 at the Auto expo convinced me that they indeed do keep it horizontal.

it's a odd way but we followed same way to mount the engine....meaning that yamaha written on side was horizontal and in that case the two rear mounts were not in a vertical straight line...but this position asks for lot of space wastage between firewall and engine....

Shanky,
It doesn't matter how the engine was mounted in the bike! Mount it in your car the best way to suit you! It is unlikely a small bit of rotation fore and aft will make much difference. Mosy R6s I have see have been pointing skyward on either the back wheel or the front =]

Think in terms of the height of the gearbox and the angle of the sump plane. It soon becomes fairly clear what the best solution is...

ya thats what we were wondering ....the effectiveness of dry sump on rotating the position of engine with respect to vertical effect... i heard that there might be problems...infact i would like to study about it...can anybody direct me to any good sites???...thanx

The biggest problem with the internet is that people assume a website exists that can solve all their problems.

Design It, Build It, Race It, it says somewhere...

If you have a dry sump I would assume you could worry less about orientation. Having said that, why a dry sump? Look at any Birmingham car and the engine (wet sump) is lower in the car than most other R6s dry-sump or otherwise. We never had (or have had) any problems with oil starvation and/or pressure problems.
