Well, it's official. The University of Tennessee will be throwing its hat into the ring this year. We just had our first SAE meeting today (for the year) and paved the way for the FSAE team to start immediately.

Now we just need money... haha

I'm not a newbie to FSAE, but everyone else here is http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sweet! Good luck. Money is definately the trick.. and start work as soon and as hard as you can, especially for a first year team.

Inventor is cool. Racecar design in autocad though.. yuck.

And you can make an sae car with 6 people and $6000. though you may be in debt afterwards haha. dont be discouraged

I'm a big fan of Inventor. Used it at Toyota this summer. Getting ready to learn Solidworks for this year's car modeling.
We are in Southern Indiana, so if guys need anything we may be able to help you out. Just wanted to let you know there is a place called Green's Cycle Salvage in Kentucky that is a good cheap place to get factory parts for your engine. May be a pretty good drive for you guys though. Good Luck!!! We work with 10 guys and $10000. 6 guys and $6000 would be damn near impossible. Would have to be a skilled 6 guys with lots of time!

Be sure to double check the rules in the design stages because they are sticklers at competition. Easier to fix now than later.

Good to see another team around. We (Kentucky) are a resurected team (UK's last car ran in '01), so we're sort of new for this year. We're in the second year of our 2 year plan, ready to roll for 2007. I try to keep in touch with the Louisville, Evansville, and Cinci teams, so keep in touch.

Like Ian from Evansville said, Green's is a godsend for parts. Also, we may have an old honda f3 around if any of the regional teams are interested in it. We switched engines this year. It has low compression in 3 cyinders after a day of a super lean fuel map and 110 octane sunoco. Removed head, no visible dammage (prolly rings). it would make a nice parts engine or a mockup engine.

keep in touch man.

We had our 1st FSAE meeting tonight and had a HUGE turnout of 29 people. I expect to lose 10-15, so I'm fairly happy with the turnout.

We're making headway on money too...

Thanks for the well wishes everyone... we'll definitely be at Detroit

Seems to me this would be the perfect sponsor for a FSAE team from Tennessee:

Good luck. Hit up any businesses in your home state and city. They seems to be more helpful to local teams.

Also, never forget the value of free materials, which includes steel, aluminum, wiring, etc.

Sweet Mechanicaldan, that links topic is really cool. I didn't get a chance to look through them yet, but I'm sure they're really gonna help.

Absolute pressure.
I have Honda f2 cam lift measurements and flow rates for the head at those lifts. Do you want them?

Good luck, last year was the first year for me and our college, and after putting my heart and soul into that car to make it to the competition and actually finishing all the events as well as the guys on the team that turned into good friends, it was probably one of the best and most fun experiences of my life. Being your first year, you have a HARD year in front of you, but keep your head up, think positive, and start building NOW!
