What are the gear shifting times teams have been able to achieve

Use the Find Feature (http://fsae.com/eve/forums?a=search&reqWords=shift+time&use_forum_scope=on&forum_scope=125607348)

we didn't use that specific shifter, but as for shift time, we had it programed for 120 ms between first and second, and like 75 ms for every other gear

In the amount of time it took you to write that snappy little reply, you could have formulated a reasonable estimate for shift times. Not only that, but Denny's search yields a batch of results about what you're looking for.

Response is spelled differently than how you spelled it. That can usually cause problems with searching. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

If you look at the link I posted, it says:
http://fsae.com/eve/forums?a=search&reqWords=shift+...orum_scope=125607348 (http://fsae.com/eve/forums?a=search&reqWords=shift+time&use_forum_scope=on&forum_scope=125607348)

The search term words were 'shift time'. We have discussed it several times previously, so rather than starting a new discussion, I thought I'd point you towards our previous discussions.

Did you actually click on the link I posted above? You seem to understand hyperlinking, you've used it in your post. From the search results:

"we use 100ms ignition cut..."
"it was around .28 seconds (manual shifter, no ignition cut, no clutch)..."

More details within the actual posts. But I won't tell you to use the Find feature, I've learned my lesson.

Perhaps the single most knowledgeable and helpful person on the forum does a search for you and points out the "find" feature to a new guy and that is the response he gets?

Best of luck finding future help on the forum.

btw, I would tell you about a very good paper published on the subject by another knowledgeable and helpful person who posts on this forum but it would likely result in you getting pissed at me, too.

Ouch.... I thought you guys were being hard on him till I went back and actually read his second post...

Now this does not have anything to do with shift times but I would recommend climbing a tall mountain, wearing a robe, taking a vow of silence (selebacy too), and hope you can be forgiven.

If not just start a new account and try to appreciate that the people who share precious information on this post do so out of a passion for motorsports and engineering, not because it is required by association with this forum. When people see the same questions come up over and over it floods the top of the message board where we like to assume new material is being discussed.

Its never intended as an insult to suggest using the find feature just another helpfull hint like anything else we hope to get from those more experienced than us on this forum.

BTW: 0.1-0.2 seconds is achievable with pneumatic shifting. And also Dave at Paradigm Motorsports is a great person to work with.

That's kind of like asking 'what kind of acceleration are guys getting?' http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

First you have to define what you mean by 'shift time.' It's a very vaque parameter that doesn't to my knowledge have any standardized method to measure by.

Do you want to know how fast the lever moves? Do you want to know entire car response? Do you you want to know driver reaction too? What are you using the info for? Those are the questions you need to ask.

Shift Time Calculator for UW-P 2004 FSAE Car

this took me hours of programming to come up with, so appreciate it

Imput 1: time taken to remove left hand from position A (steering wheel) to postion B (shift lever)
Imput 2: time taken to move hand from neutral shift lever postion to gear engagment position
Imput C: time taken to move lever back to neutral postion and place hand back on steering wheel.

Seriously thou man, right now there isnt a lot of action on this site, so it will take a few days for ppl to pick up on your post, and like someone said if its a repeat issue, it will just get thrown under the table. No need to get offended.

Just because I can't resist...

I used the sae search (http://www.sae.org/servlets/SiteSearch?charset=iso-8859-1&ht=0&qp=&col=portal&qs=&sae_qt1=&qc=&pw=100%2525&ws=0&la=en&qm=0&st=1&nh=25&lk=1&rf=0&oq=&rq=0&si=1&ql=&jsp_name=simplesearch.jsp&qt=fsae+shift&ofType=ALL) feature. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

As Mike said, welcome to the site.
