Has anyone had problems getting a reading off of the hall effect sensor used on the Suzuki GSX-R to determine crank position?

We are running a Performance Electronics EFI setup and are having problems with the system as a result of our pickup and trigger wheel. Whenever they are installed inside the engine and all of the covers bolted down, we get some malfunctions particularly with the fuel injectors. If the sensor is removed and an external trigger wheel is spun on a drill next to the sensor or the engine covers are left off, all systems function normally.

Thus it seems that something is causing interference or misalignment when the engine covers are tightened. As such, we are in the process of fabricating an external trigger wheel & sensor setup.

Has anyone experienced this problem or something similar before? Any ideas on what might be causing the improper readings when the engine covers are bolted on? Any advice would be much appreciated as we are running out of time and ideas.

Thanks,

You're using the stock mag pickups, or a hall effect setup that you made? What year GSXR600?

Hi Nathan,

It sounds like a misalignment problem between your sensor and wheel. If the wheel does not pass directly below the metal element of the 2-wire VR pickup, you can get incorrect/unstable readings.
