Looking for 450cc-610cc single cylinder engine or a place where I can find one. Would like it to include electric start but not totally necessary. I've checked all around the internet (ebay, craigslist, traderonline, everywhere). Cannot pay a fortune for it I attend a state school so tax write offs are availible. Any help appreciated

We sold the TRX motor, but the CRF450X engine is still for sale. It really only needs a RH crankcase cover, a starter, and some bolts to run as a dyno motor. Most of the parts that aren't starter clutch related are still for sale too.
We MIGHT have a complete, ready-to-rock CRF450X for sale also, pending some decisions that need made concerning one of our older cars.

Looks like you've found a tough reality...
Barring getting a deal from an old school, your best bets are ebay, craigslist, traderonline, etc. And IMO electric start is totally necessary. At least there are enough quads out there with electric start that it's not worth messing with anything else.
If funding is the problem with ebay, how do you plan on paying to build the rest of the car? Tires? Competition fees? If you're dealing with a state school (like we are), you're not going to be able to be competitive unless YOU get enough sponsorship going to cover 95% of your budget.

In my opinion you need to do a bit more research before you buy. Decide why you want a single, if you are going to turbo it, which one fits your needs, etc.
Once you have done that look at ebay, Craigslist, or get a dealer to sponsor you.
