I'm presently looking for square 1 x 1 x 0.065 tube. Our local shops don't have any better steel than crew tube (1008 or 1010 steel) and they can't garantee me 0.1% carbon. Does square DOM tube exist?? I would like to have informations on which square tube is frequently used on FSAE design.

Thanks!

they have alot of race parts and fabrication parts.

Square tube for same wall thickness and 'size' is heavier by the foot than round tube, so use it sparingly. Makes for fitting suspension mounts fairly easy though.

Do you need .1% + carbon steel for your frame?

For the record we use 4130 for everything, square and round, just for consistency and ease of welding (especially on the thin stuff!). If you ask me, Chassis Shop is the place to get it. Cheap! When its on backorder there we go to Online Metals.

Maybe a bit OT but useful info found here:

Atlas F1 Bulletin Board - Steel Space frame (http://forums.autosport.com/showthread.php?threadid=92521)

We have tried to get 4130 locally this year, and every place ended up a lot more explensive than where we buy it normally, which is AED Motorsports in Indianapolis.

www.aedmotorsports.com (http://www.aedmotorsports.com)

Give them a call for prices.
