I would like to see another Big Ten Shootout this year, we did this last year and it was a blast, even with only a few cars. I know Northwestern will be in.
That said, this is very much still in the concept phase as a place/date have yet to be determined. If people have ideas for locations/dates that would work well please post them up! I know Chicago was talked about, but a suitable venue (that will work with us on legal/insurance issues) needs to be found. Format should also be discussed (fun runs, drag racing, autocross, etc...)
Also of note: even though this is called the "Big Ten" Shootout, in my opinion there is absolutely nothing that would disqualify a willing midwestern team from participating, regardless of conference. The whole point of this is to network, see some cars, and have fun!

I could forsee a Big 12 vs. Big 10 event. I know I can get K-State there and I am sure Missouri, Oklahoma, and KU might be interested. Let us know on details when you have them.

Does Purdue have plans of hosting again? Lets be sure not to steal their fire if they do.
Illinois is definitely interested. We weren't able to attend last year due to insurance issues, so it would be great if that could be factored into the location decision.

If this event happens we would definately be interested in attending. Was it run like a UTA Weekend or a Toronto Shootout last year?
As far as insurance concerns, we have had good luck conducting test days on the Saturday of a normal Sunday autocross. Typically the weekend SCCA insurance covers both days anyways. Our local regions have even provided timing equipment for a full day of testing under the condition that we set up the course for their Sunday event. It looks like the Indianapolis region is having several events this fall at Grissom that might work out.

If Purdue would like to host again, I would not get in the way of it, but based on my talks with people here and there, nothing has been laid down yet. That said, what nick suggested about the SCCA insurance may be a better way to go on that front since a few teams had problems coming up with the requirements for Purdue's Risk Management dept last year.
As far as format, last year there weren't as many cars so it was basically open track all day (which was fun). If we could get timing equipment, that would be even better!

Purdue is willing to host again if that works out best. Since we had a successful event last year, I would think Risk Management may work with us a little more but I would have to check. If someone else would like to host that works to as long as the location is central enough for many teams to attend. Also this year let's try to get an event earlier in the year, like end of August or sometime in September. That way its not as cold as it was last year.

What do you guys think of Lincoln? Is that close enough to make the trip this Fall? Ive got contacts in NE SCCA that could help make it happen.

If it could be held in Lincoln, how about adding a Div II Independent? SDSM&T would definitely consider a trip down to Nebraska. Also, it could be a great way to welcome UNL to the Big 10 and possibly jumpstart their new team.

If any of you who attended the Big Ten shootout from last year have a list of contacts for each school could i get a copy of that? If this is going to happen we probably need to move quickly since Aug/Sep is just around the corner.
Also, if any other teams are interested in participating in a potential test day/event at Lincoln this Fall send me your contact information as well. Even if there is no Big12/BigTen Shootout i may try to set something up at Lincoln anyways.

Not sure if you care to include some other teams, but Oakland works the Detroit SCCA circuit pretty hard and would certainly entertain attending another event like this.

That would be great guys if you could have it here in Lincoln. It would really give my team a chance to come out, check out everything and meet with you all.

Lincoln is an awful long way to tow for a "Big Ten" event!! How about something nearer to home?
The Detroit Region SCCA has 2 more events this year, Sunday, September 11th at Belle Isle and Sunday, October 16th at the Silverdome, the former site of the Michigan event. I am sure the Region would welcome the opportunity.
Or, maybe it could be arranged to be the day after the Detroit Section SAE's annual FSAE Workshop that will be held on Saturday, October 22nd at U. of Michigan-Dearborn.
