Has anybody known about this or is it some obscure rule that SAE decided was neccessary. for what though Safety from being burned or from hurting your back?
SEE CDS newsletter November 2004 to see exactly what I am talking about. I can't find a link atm.
-edit-
No actually I had no idea about someone getting hurt

If you were at competition you might remember that a guy got hurt pretty bad pushing a car. I think that makes it a pretty cut and dry case on why the rule was created.

If SAE thinks a situation is dangerous why would you think they would just hope the teams would fix it? It's not like it's a big cumbersome rule, and it's hardly obscure seeing as there is a whole page devoted to it in the newsletter (though being in the rulebook would be nice).

Why dont they just trust us to drive very carefully around from event to event? They trust us to build cars that we wont die in when we drive them. Whats next? Everyone has to wear fluffy bunny feet to keep our feet from hurting.

Anybody know if this is likely to apply to Formula Student too?

Thanks!

We already have a prototype ready for production. They are called safety hoppers, thats right the fluffy stuff is actually made of Nomex with an oil resistant bottom and full safety toe and shank.

Also in anticipation that someone gets sick from exhaust fumes we have spec'ed out a "bunny hood" or carbon monoxide filtrating bunny mask that will protect fsae students from the prevailing smog in and around Detroit, while giving off a friendly, soft cudly appearance. FEA is still incomplete. Update to follow. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm confused, is there a new rule saying we need push bars?

Follow this link:

http://students.sae.org/competitions/newsletters/

And click on November 2004 to find out about the push bar.

I would have been nice if SAE put this in the 2005 rules, or at least mailed the newsletters out to each of the teams. As the only reason we came across this change was through this forum, and even then I had to search SAE.org to find the newsletter.

I guess the newsletter is just one more thing to check each month.

SAE makes announcements on their forum every time a new newsletter comes out. Their forum is official and they make official announcements there. It's a lame forum but I still keep an eye on it.

That is actually where I found the link to the newsletter.

yeah that does seem fair since the only way I found out about it is that our advisor e-mails the team every time a newsletter comes out.
