Any teams played around with ignition energy on CDI systems. If so, on what engines and were they boosted. From previous experience, varying energy from 5 to 100mJ had no effect on performance but this was an atmo engine. With boost, and low energy as not to fry our coils, our COV of IMEP is extremely high. Pumping up the ignition energy solves our problems with dramatically improved combustion

Have any teams experienced burning out coil on plug coils with high energy.

What energy do other teams run

Hey Wattard, wtf does "our COV of IMEP is extremely high" mean. Is it painful?

This is WTF it means:

Coefficient of Variation for the Indicated Mean Effective Pressure.

Wattard, 5 to 100mj is really low. How do you vary the output? I have found 2 COP in series survives 450mj reliabily.

Hafast, we vary the output through changing some of the electronics in the cdi box. We send it back to the supplier to do this. I have never heard of any ignition energy systems above 250mJ. What engine have you run 450mJ in and with what ignition system and ECU. DO you have rapid spark plug erosion

What COP are you using and what do you mean by 2 COP in series. Does this mean that the 450mJ is taken up to fire 2 spark plugs at the same time(eg wasted spark on 4 cyl) meaning that each plug recieves 450/2 mJ.
