The MIT FSAE team is looking to do torsion testing on our Honda 600 CBR F4i. We were wondering how other teams go about doing this and approximetly how long it takes.

i haven't ever done such testing, but if i did, i think i would do it while the engine is up to operating temp, just to make sure.

Brad,

We do both hot and cold to compare the difference.

The engine is set up on a table with the rear engine mounts fixed to the table and a long piece of RHS mounted to the front mounts. Dial gauges are setup and the load on the end of the RHS varied.

Moments are calculated and deflections are measured.

The hot test was done with a temporary setup just to start the engine and get it up to temperature on the same table.

Don't know how long it takes, I didn't do it. You should be able to setup and complete hot and cold tests easily in one day if you're prepared.
