Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and Gumout are teaming up to offer an exciting new
program to Formula SAE teams at the 2012 Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour events.
Using Gumout’s “Use Your Motorhead” Project Volkswagen Golf, FSAE teams are invited to
compete against one another for top time of the day. The winner will be the event Gumout
Collegiate Shootout Champion, taking the trophy, a full?year SCCA membership and bragging
rights back to his or her school.
Gumout is putting up $100 per school to cover any
expenses to get to the event, and will also provide a
promotional kit of Gumout and other ITW brand
products for the FSAE teams to try out. Of course,
they’ll also provide the car, the gas, the tires and the
entry fee.
The program is limited to the first eight schools that
commit. If no more than five schools commit, each
school can add a second driver.
The competition will be held on Saturday of the two?day event. Each driver will be assigned to a
specific heat to take their three runs. Normal Solo National Tour competition rules apply
(cones, work assignment, etc). At the end of the day, the winner will receive the trophy in a
special ceremony.
Additionally, all participating schools are encouraged to bring their FSAE car to compete in that
class and SCCA has reduced the entry fee to these teams by 50% (to $51 per driver). Drivers
participating in the Shootout may not drive in the FSAE class competition.
Your team is cordially invited to participate in Round One of the Gumout Collegiate Shootout
When: Saturday, March 10, 2012
Where: South Georgia Motorsports Park, Cecil, GA
Time: First heat starts at 9 a.m.
Who: One to two drivers from each school may participate. Must have valid state driver’s
license. Drivers in Collegiate Shootout may not drive in another class during the event.
Drivers must be able to drive a manual transmission.
RSVP: Please contact Deena Rowland at drowland@scca.com or 800/770?2055 to reserve
your space. Teams will receive a check made out to the team for $100 at the event.

I would just like to thank the SCCA for inviting Purdue to the GUMOUT Collegiate Challenge at the Peru leg of Tire Rack SCCA National Tour this past Saturday. It was a great opportunity to not only race the GUMOUT VW Golf around the cones for free, but to also spend the day talking all things FSAE and coming away with new contacts and new ideas. The tour is wrapping up for the year, but I hope all teams will keep an eye out for the invite when the tour comes by them next year.
