COLLEGIATE SHOOTOUT
Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and Gumout are teaming up to offer an exciting new
program to Formula SAE teams at the 2012 Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour events.
Using Gumout’s “Use Your Motorhead” Project Volkswagen Golf, FSAE teams are invited to
compete against one another for top time of the day. The winner will be the event Gumout
Collegiate Shootout Champion, taking the trophy, a full?year SCCA membership and bragging
rights back to his or her school.
Gumout is putting up $100 per school to cover any
expenses to get to the event, and will also provide a
promotional kit of Gumout and other ITW brand
products for the FSAE teams to try out. Of course,
they’ll also provide the car, the gas, the tires and the
entry fee.
The program is limited to the first eight schools that
commit. If no more than five schools commit, each
school can add a second driver.
The competition will be held on Saturday of the two?day event. Each driver will be assigned to a
specific heat to take their three runs. Normal Solo National Tour competition rules apply
(cones, work assignment, etc). At the end of the day, the winner will receive the trophy in a
special ceremony.
Additionally, all participating schools are encouraged to bring their FSAE car to compete in that
class and SCCA has reduced the entry fee to these teams by 50% (to $51 per driver). Drivers
participating in the Shootout may not drive in the FSAE class competition.
