We are thinking of producing hollow carbon fibre axles this time which would be connected to a joint through a flange in our driveline. So can anyone suggest me how to connect the flange to the hollow carbon fibre reinforced axle if we remove the mandrel from it without any machining in the carbon fibre. Also is it advisable to remove the mandrel from the shaft or not since one way can be to have flanges on the mandrel only and then not removing it after reinforcement. But problem in this would be that the torque would now will be transferred via mandrel. Suggestions reqd.

How about bolts?

If you can't figure out how to make a flange using carbon, you really shouldn't be making a drive shaft out of it.

3M make some pretty strong glue. It stinks of fish though.

If in doubt: 9514.

We don't want to use bolts since it will require drilling holes in the carbon fibre reinforced axles which is never advisable

Hi,

we also use the Loctite 9514 for the same purpose. The 3M 9223 is also a solution. Adjust the bonding gap somewhere in between 0,05 - 0,1 mm. Make sure all surfaces are roughened up and carefulle degreased.
But keep in mind: CFRP drive shafts raise your load peaks in the whole drivetrain a lot compared to steel shafts.
