We are having some engine difficulties which sound like an oil shortage or knocking problem. Mine is the knocking theory.

We do not have a dyno and have been using a map from another 600cc bike, believing it would be similar. At idle speed 1500rpm and with no load the advance is 40 degrees. I read in the honda manual that it should be around 10. What are your opinions?

Would anyone be able to send me a copy of the
ir map from any ECU just to give me a feel of the advance map.

Thanks

Yeah that is a lot of timing advance down low. You're upper rpm no load timing values don't look that out of the ordinary, but the engine should be able to idle on ~10 degrees well, and most likely get towards 40 degrees 3000rpm and above. I don't have a map handy to help you out, but see if you can get anything from the PE 600cc map at the bottom of the page here: http://www.pe-ltd.com/downloads.htm

I don't know how the Honda manual is in terms of giving you that information, but in the Kawasaki manuals they give a few RPM points and their timing values. Hopefully if that was audible knocking you were hearing, it hasn't led to other problems.
