We use a fuel pump from a Ford Flex-Fuel vehicle (which means it works for alcohol). The fuel tank was constructed of .030" 6160 Aluminum and has a port which allows for the mounting of the in-tank fuel pump. It all seems to work pretty well.

Hi Matt,

We have had pretty good luck with the pump from an '87 Ford Ranger for everything from mild V-8s to FSAE cars.

Also, if you guys need any help, engine control or otherwise, give us a call.

I would have reservations about using a standard motorcycle fuel pump, given that you are moving from an almost gravity-feed situation (although obviously pressurized for EFi) to scavenging from a low mounted tank.

Fuel problems seem to occour far too frequently in so many classes of racing, I think it may be an area where close attention should be paid. Do any teams encounter any problems (in testing or racing) with this type of thing (fuel surge, insufficient pressure/volume)? It would be interesting to know, we are in the process of designing the fuel system (along with everything else) for our first car.
