hw much difference wud a drilled disk make against a vented disk.
Does it only improves the bite and easy removal of gases

Is there disadvantage with vented disc.I mean hw abt going with jst a vented disc. Will d performance be really affected

Alright, well, if by vented discs you mean the kind you find on porshe's and ferrari's (the ones with the vanes in the middle), forget about those. Too big, too heavy, and i dont think you can get them small enough for fsae application.

2. Performance will really only begin to get affected if there is an insane amount of holes in the disc that the effective pad area on the steel disc becomes too small. Also pad wear will be an issue.

Let me cut your woes down for you a little:

*go to wilwood.com for hydraulic bits and bias bars.
*use no greater than a 1/4 inch thickness, no other team has em thicker than that.
*the hole pattern is for weight savings and cleaning. The only thing not to do is a circumferential pattern.

As drivetrain_uw said in one of your other posts, please post all questions related to one system or problem in the same post. Post Whores suck.

In relation to your question, a vented disk (assuming you mean an OEM style radially vaned disk, probably between .5" and 1" in thickness) is waaaay overkill for formula SAE. A thin, solid rotor will offer better braking performance- it =will be much much lighter, and will come up to and stay at operating temperature much longer. Whether or not you drill or slot the rotor is up to you. Some will say that drilled rotors are more prone to cracking (which is true on street cars) but we have drilled rotors and have never cracked one from braking heat or force.

Ajay, Here's a good answer to your question straight from AP Racing. I hope this helps. As for our team we do use slotted rotors around 0.150-.200" thick.
