FSAE East 2006 Detroit (somewhere) may 17-21
FSAE West 2006 California Speedway June 14-18

The west coast event is conveniently during finals week for us.

Expect the west coast practice around the 29th of April or the 6th of May but no promises yet.

Heh, every year I was on Cornell's team, the competition was during our finals week. I've taken exams in hotel rooms, at the hotel bar, and in the back seat of the Professor's car while driving on the Thru-way.

I predict the effects of the east/west split will be "interesting." For example, students living in dorms and apartments with less than full-year leases will need to find places to stay for 3 or 4 weeks after the end of the semester. It will also interfere with summer employment. Graduating students will still be working on the car after graduation... I'm sure it will work out, but it will probably take a couple years to adjust.

Wow, for once I'm happy Stanford has finals on the weekend. Ours are the 9th-14th. Practice looks good too. Good work on setting the West Coast competition up!

June 14-18 totally awesome. This would also allow people to view both events if they wanted.

Here in Florida, all the schools have finals at the end of April or beginning of May. So the competition has always been after finals for us.

Graduating seniors typically don't have finals, right?

At Cornell they generally do, but it sounds like it works differently elsewhere. My senior year, I happened to have mostly liberal arts classes and some of those had final papers instead of final exams, so I got those done before the trip to Detroit. The exams I did have were all before we left, luckily. Some of the other seniors there had to take finals at the hotel.

Folks, I've been involved with these competitions in one way or the other for 27 years now. I can tell you that the subject of scheduling around finals comes up every year. No matter what the dates, some teams will have conflicts.

When I was a faculty advisor, the FSAE competition in Detroit was often the week prior to or the week of our final exams. We just dealt with it.
