Hubrights or not?

I think UWA coined that term to describe their upright/hub/brake configuration, which is:
-live axle
-brake rotor inboard of upright

But I'm not sure if there's more to it than that. It's not a particularly descriptive nickname, in my opinion.

not quite hubrights. UWA from what i could tell used the same bolt through the brake hat bearing spacer and wheel center. the hub or wheel to bearing component was simply a plate making it much more compact and was i think where the term hubright was inspired.

Fade,

You are pretty much right.

All of us got pretty sick of saying "hub and upright package" but because the multiple tasks of some of the components we sort of had to in order to avoid miscommunications. Someone called it a hubright at some stage and the name stuck.

The word itself isn't that descriptive and is more an indication of our laziness with the english language http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm not sure I'd call them hubrights, since its more of a live axle driving a brake rotor. We had a similar setup last year with the CV as the live axle. However, this year the bearings load the CV directly so we might be calling them CVrights?

Thank you very much. The name "hubright" used to give me the impression that the hub and the upright were all one piece, but in reality a bearing separates them. The name must be valid since the 2004 judges liked it.

I think we've come up with an excellent (lazy) name for our design (which I'm afraid to share for multiple reasons), and hopefully it will stick indefinitely.

No, we were thinking more along the lines of "Hubwrong."
