Carbon fiber firewall

Does a carbon fiber panel meet the requirements for a fire resistant firewall? If not, what can we coat the carbon fiber with to make it legal? Thanks for your help. A judges opinion would be great.

We are trying to make an integrated seat that doubles as a firewall and are having the same problem.

many teams have done this

we have a seat / firewall

and a small ally heat deflector between the seat and exhaust headers

there are silica beads that can be bonded to the back surface

its like a makeshift ceramic coating

This topic has come up before. Some good info and a lot of my off topic rambling here. (http://fsae.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/125607348/m/25210205111/p/1) I don't know if there was a real conclusion. Frank is right, just keep the heat off of it.

we are on that route too. it can be done, just make sure you resin is fireresistant and you protect you back from heat using somehting reflective

we're doing the same thing, except we also have a layer of kevlar.

well, we had a layer of kevlar in our carbon seat/firewall...we also put a layer of alumized heat shield in ceratian hot areas for driver comfort, but had no problem passing tech with it.
