View Full Version : Creating a vacuum in Reservoirs

I was just wondering if anyone has seen a difference or has thought about this.... On the brake fluid reservoirs there is the hole in the top to allow air and essentially atmospheric pressure into the brake system to allow for the equalization of the fluid.
During testing however due to oscillation and general running of the car, brake fluid is spraying out of the top.
Ive thought about plugging the hole with a breather material, however in the past we have just melted the hole closed.
I was contemplating whether or not there are adverse effects from creating a vacuum in the reservoirs.
thoughts?

Durex have the answer...
Fill your resivoirs, then place a condom over the top such that it is touching the brake fluid (no air gap) and stretched over the top of the resivoir. Put the top back on the resivor and you're done - no vacuum because you still have the breather and the condom is a flexible membrane and no spillage out the top either. As a bonus it'll help keep water out of your brakign system.

furthermore, if you ever have sex with your resevoir you're protected against most STDs and unplanned pregnancy!

i had thought about placing some kind of membrane inside the reservoirs either that or another sort of breather material. Seeing as how a condom would flex with the change in fluid level/atmospheric pressure it doesn't sound half bad. Even though we have found other uses for condoms in the production of the car im inclined to look elsewhere for something similar. thanks for the idea.

I think most people just use zip tied shop towels or wrist bands to soak up the leakage.
