Sustainable Systems Internship / Co-op
Position Summary
The Cape Eleuthera Institute (CEI) is accepting applications for a sustainable systems internship. Applicants will gain knowledge of systems designed for food production, energy generation, and water and waste management.
Position Requirements
Nearly all aspects of life at CEI revolve around sustainability. Applicants should be prepared to get involved with several different projects as needed. In the coming months, we will upgrade our biodiesel production plant, explore biogas capture, upgrading, and use, design and build a campus resource and recycling center, and analyze campus solar and wind energy production among other projects. Successful candidates will also assist with the maintenance of existing campus systems and provide support to CEI’s research programs, which include off-shore aquaculture, flats ecology, shark conservation, aquaponics, permaculture, biodigestion, biodiesel production, and conch research.
This position requires the ability to work long hours with a close knit group of peers. The typical work week is Monday through Friday, 7AM to 4:30PM with a half day on Saturday. Applicants may, at times, be asked to work weekends or participate in community events.
The preferred start date for this internship is January 9th.
Qualifications
Applicants must be in the process of completing or have completed an undergraduate degree in an engineering, scientific, or environmental field.
Skills
Experience with AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred but not required. Additional experience with construction (roofing, masonry, use of power and hand tools), project-based or self-directed work, computer programming, and AC/DC electrical systems is preferred.
