Hey all,

I was working on our SES form for Michigan this year, and I noticed that the "Front Hoop Bracing" and "Main Hoop Bracing Support" tabs seem to be swapped. The Main Hoop Bracing Support tab lists a minimum wall thickness of 1.4mm, which corresponds to .049in (even though, per rules, it must be .065in or 1.6mm). And the Front Hoop Bracing tab lists a minimum thickness of 1.6mm (again, .065in) whereas it should be 1.4mm (.049in) per rules. So they seem to be switched for some reason.

Anybody know anything about this?

Thanks,
Gyro

Gyro,

Roll hoop bracing has a minimum wall thickness of 0.065"(1.65mm) and Hoop bracing supports have a minimum wall thickness of 0.049" (1.25mm).

Hope that helps

Eric,

I took "Bracing supports" to mean the triangulated structure which connects the main hoop bracing back to the main hoop (at the top and bottom side impact members). This structure is called out as being .065 tubing in the rules. If not this structure, what does "main hoop bracing supports" mean?

Also, what would be the "front hoop bracing" in that case?

Gyro,

You are correct about what the main hoop bracing supports are, but I think you should take a look at the chart in rule T3.4. You'll see that the bracing supports only have to have thickness of 0.049in.

I've also found the "Tech" documents listed for 2012 on this link useful.

I'd also suggest seeing what your teammates know. This is my first time doing the SES and I have a pitifully undersized team.

Good Luck

Haha it's good to be helpful. Just have pity on Vanderbilt when we're bumbling around the paddocks like headless chickens which I hope we do a lot less of.

I can only hope we find ourselves in a position to do that. Come find Washington Univ. in St. Louis (car 53) in the paddocks at Michigan, if that's where you guys are headed.
