Sir/Madam,
We are a team of four students from Glasgow University. As a fourth year group project we have been set the task of designing an impact attenuator. As part of this project we are researching the market for impact attenuators, i.e. who we could sell them to, and out of these people, who would actually want them.
Just to clarify, we are not infact selling impact attenuators. But your answering the following four questions to help with our project would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Rory Fraser, Michael McCulloch, Kern Boyd, Kathleen McCann, Finlay Wallace

1. Would you or your team be open to the idea of buying in an impact attenuator if one was available?

2. Please rate the following three factors in order of importance?
•Size
•Weight
•Cost

3. Does your team aim to meet minimum requirements so that performance is enhanced, or would you look to surpass the guidelines in the interest of better safety?

4. Does your team have a specific budget for the impact attenuator?

1.- we would consider it
2.- weight (sub 2 lbs), cost (sub $150), size
3.- minimum
4.- no

Just using aluminum honeycomb, epoxy and some brackets ours cost less than $100

Wasn't there another student from Glasgow doing something similar for a pedal box?

These market surveys, IMO, are not a good way to do racecar design engineering.

Must be some professor pushing these..
