can anyone help me in finding the specifications (current, voltage, electrode to be used etc.) for mig welding 3mm sheets of MS ...is mig welding possible for such sheets ?what is the minimum thickness requirement for mig welding??also , what will be the specifications incase of chassis tubes 1" OD and 1.6mm thickness...
is SMAW strong enough for welding of chassis??

I would definately not stick weld a FSAE chassis.
For MIG or TIG setup parameters.. check out http://www.millerwelds.com/education/calculators/

Handbooks may give a rough guideline but you really need someone good to either do the job or train someone to weld well before you get in too deep.
That thickness on its ouwn shouldn't be an issue. Anybody can burn a piece if they're not very practiced, but my uncle managed to stick weld some sheet steel less than a third that thick earlier this year, probably closer to 0.5 mm thick. That doesn't seem like the easy way to do that welding job, but it worked for him. You'll just have to see how good your welder (the person, not the machine) is.

I thought a MiG welder was a metal fabricator in a Russian Airplane factory?? http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

I've stick welded thin stuff like that.
Its not fun, not easy, and not fast.
You'd be better off with an oxy than trying it.
MIG or TIG is the way to go.
