Hi,

I've been given the job of getting our rear vehicle hubs splined to accept the driveshafts (ford focus/fiesta/escort) and after digging around a bit i've discovered i'm totally clueless about the subject.I've found a chap whose got a wire EDM machine to spline my hubs but he needs a tooth profile before he can start programming it.

I think the splines i need are involute (kind of bent in the middle) but I haven't got a clue how to draw them and the ISO (4156) has left me feeling more bewildered than enlightened. If anyone can kindly pass on some information about how I go about getting the hubs splined to accept the drive shaft I'd be most grateful.

Specs:

# teeth = 23
dia pitch = 24/48 (what does this mean and what units?)
Pressure angle = 30 degrees
Minor diameter = 19mm

Have you looked in the machinery handbook? I beleive it explains all of the things you're asking about.
