We are setting up a DAQ system and looking to incorporate a wireless logging system. Can anyone assist in suggesting the possible modes of implementing this system. Our logger has a serial/parallel output.

We run a wireless serial transmitter from freewave electronics(www.freewave.com) It basically plugs into the serial output from your logger and has a reciever that plugs into the serial input on your computer. One of our EE's wrote up a simple code to visually display everything on the screen and log it. Pretty basic but it works dam well.

We developed a system that used Aerocomm RF modules. They only cost about $300 and they are easy to use. We didn't have any problems with the range of the modules either. These are similar to the freewave with the modules plugging into the serial port at each end. They can be plugged into USB also.

What about power requirements on the bluetooth? Wouldn't the bigger antenna require more power?

Totally wrong, bigger antena less power consumption.

I happen to know, there is a thesis out here that might be useful, that is unless you are talking about the wireless part being the link between the sensor and the DAQ.
