Has anyone tried incorporating a hand clutch and shifter similar to that of a shifter kart like the one shown

U.C. Berkeley did that for 2011 and 2012. Email Chris or Shin (the team leaders listed on the website (http://fsae.berkeley.edu)) and he should be able to get a picture to you.

Yeah, we had a sort of shifter like that on our 2006 car. It was quite a clunky mechanical shifter that incorporated the clutch on downshifts. Also had a lever so you could only clutch. Unfortunately nobody who drove it is around in the uni anymore so I can't tell you how good it is. We used a mechanical paddle shifter at this years event (Bodged when we had a power shifter failure) and it's flawless now http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have a lecture now, however, if you like I'll upload a picture in a couple of hours.

I'm not familiar with how shifter karts shift so I might be missing what you are getting at.

We have run a hand clutch on the right behind the wheel with a mechanical shift linkage on the left for years, it is simple and works. I like how it feels, I ride motorcycles and I'm used to the shift feel and hand clutch.

We are going to an electronically controlled pneumatic shifter this year. Lets hope it works...

Jon, Ours was the Kliktronic shifter. I must say there's nothing wrong with the product, it's just lack of testing time from our part. And not enough electricity http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

It should be fine now. Car has some extra juice and all faults found. Hopefully the test booked for 31st will prove it works. I've fitted both a quick release on the mechanical shifter and a quick fit on the powershifter. Good for back to back testing too.

In my lack of concentration after my lectures today, I forgot to take a picture. You'll have one first thing in the morning http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I appreciate the posts. I actually forgot I posted this question, hence the lack of response. A picture of your setup would be awesome Dewi
