Mounting of Intermediate Column of Steering

Recently while designing steering mechanism of our car, i was wondering if there is a necessity for mounting of intermediate column. I am planning to use apex UV joints and since this is my first experience, any help will be appreciated.

No. Its can be self supporting by the end joints. You may decide you don't need the intermediate shaft. Just use a single cv joint or even just live with the nonlinear control produced by one UV.
