Any of you guys running a remote oil filter?
Our chassis to engine space is causing some packaging problems and moving the oil filter out of the way will help solve these.
Im thinking of having the filter on the side of the engine with a small mocal cooler in line. Can anyone see any problems with this?
Cheers

could be heavier, but if you can't fit the engine in the frame..., plus do you really need the oil cooler? or have you removed the stock (if any) cooler?.

The chassis is composite carbon fibre with half engine mounted inside the rear of the chassis, Very tight packagaing with the engine bolted to the diffuser acting stressed member.
The oil filter is causing problems with the exhaust manifold as obviously we have a 'box' to work in to get the bends we need to get the turbo in the right position with equal length headers. By relocating the filter we will get a lot more room will be worth it
It will cause added complexity for sure but we think the advantages with packaging, accessibility, increased oil capacity and possibility of a cooler.
Hope i didn't give too much away ....

Our team went through a remote oil cooler and oil filter phase this summer. I didn't like it then and still don't. I think there are better ways to solve packaging problems than by adding complexity, weight, and potential failure points into a system. Think about the number of ways you could lose oil pressure in a stock system. That number increases with each piece of tubing, hardware, and connector you add into the system and that is the largest disadvantage in my opinion.
Use a Yamaha R6, oil filter's on the side http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

These engines have an oil to water cooler that's pretty effective. Your oil will be running a lot hotter if you use a small oil to air cooler instead. You can downsize your water radiators slightly though.
