Hey All
At the Silverstone UK event there was a team advertising for sale a part which combined the throttle and restrictor into one simple part - hence reducing overall flow restriction and improving performance.

As a team we are seriously looking into employing this part but do not know which team were selling it.

Can anyone shed some light on this?
Many thanks

Im afraid thats not it, the unit Im thinking of had the butterfly valve IN the 20mm restriction - pretty bespoke to FSAE requirements.

my mistake, it is that company only they dont have any reference to it on thier website.
Have called the guys on +441953859133 and were most helpful

I have to say I would be concerned about losing valuable cross sectional area by putting a butterfly valve in the restrictor.

The butterfly isn't in the restrictor area, its upstream of it (as per SAE rules). Its a nice bit of kit, much simpler than what we have previously run (modified jenvey throttle body and machined restrictor with convergent and divergent sections).

AT Power designed and manufactured a 24mm Throttle Body with a combined 20mm restrictor specifically for the Formula SAE. Unfortunately, we missed the opportunity to get the throttle on a car for the Silverstone event but they are now available for the new season.

A datasheet will be posted on the website www.atpower.co.uk (http://www.atpower.co.uk) ASAP.

A datasheet on the Formula Student SAE Throttle Body is now available for this link:
http://atpower.co.uk/throttle_bodies_formula_student.html

And can be purchased from our online shop:

Feedback is welcomed.

A technical drawing would be very good.

I only see 2 holes for mounting and one is used for the actuator cable. This means that the team has to remove the cable to detach the restrictor for measurements at the scrutineering. 4 holes for mounting at the flange and an extra hole for the cable holder would be way better.

Regards,

Tobi

Hello Tobi,

The mounting flange does have 2 holes but they are dedicated to fixing the throttle assembly to the plenum. The actuator cable has its own mounting hole so will not affect scrutineering. There is an additional hole for the second return spring as per the regs but you can tune the feel to the drivers requirements.

A technical drawing can be posted on the forum but we have to protect our IP. Would a 3D iges file be better to build into your engine model?

A package model in iges format is now available on our website at:-

Please feel free to feedback comments.

I was PM'd from a member looking for the information since we have moved to a new website. I thought I would also update the info here;

Join the newsletter to access the downloads section to get the CAD model.

I was pretty happy with our throttle body. I don't really have another throttle body to compare it with.

PRO's:
Saved a ton of time in designing our own throttle body.
Lightweight

Con's:
As-received, our throttle body stuck open. We took it apart, realigned a couple things and threw some grease in there and it worked a lot better.

We're looking at buying another one for our 2011 car.

I got the following email last year:

"Sirs,

my name is Stefano Brunetti. During 2006, 2007 and 2008 I was involved in designing and producing a single-seater.

After this experience I designed and built a throttle body specific for Formula SAE cars.

During my job in the team I have noticed that in the market was missing this really important product. A good throttle body could give benefits in terms of power expecially at high revs.

Attached you could find a new presentation of my job. If you are interested or you need more information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you very much for the attention.

Best regards,
Stefano Brunetti"

There was a pdf file attached with more details of the project:
