I am going. A lot of it seems to be info that I already know, but some of it seems new, and all of it seems interesting to listen to.

just got off the phone, you have to call them to attend the seminar at the student discount rate. The way it works is they put you on a list and if it gets booked by regular paying members then you dont get to go. But if theres room then the students on the list can attend...

I'm pretty certain that these seminars allow students to get locked in with a guaranteed spot foir the $195 rate. The seminars at the FSAE events are there for students. I would recommend you call back and verify that you are going to one of the seminars held at FSAE venues.

Usually students can attend any SAE seminar for $50 a day plus expenses for books, materials, etc.., only if the seminar is not full. But in this case, the $195 is supposed to allow a registered spot.

Did you try to register online for the student rate? They are now all showing a $195 student rate.

online it would only show me member and nonmember fee. I called their CSR and she said students have to do it over the phoen because of the members having 1st priority. Nowhere in the seminar info mentions it being $50 for fsae participants so I am not sure where you get that from.

ALL SAE seminars are $50 a day + materials for students, regardless of whether they are FSAE students or not, if the slots aren't full. It's not in the seminar info, because that's always how it is. For any seminar.

However, as I understand it, THESE seminars are supposed to be oriented towards students. So there is a discounted 'special student rate' of $195 that provides a reserved seat.

I'm pretty sure that's how these particular seminars were described to me. However, there's a chance I'm wrong here. I'll try to find out.

Just want to clarify--three SAE seminars have been scheduled specifically for FSAE students: Ron Matthews' Engine Calibration, Paul Glessner's Aerodynamics for Race Cars, and Paul Haney's Tires and Handling. The $195 student rate was set to be able to run these seminars with a student-only audience. So any registrations are guaranteed. For the next week or so, however, if you register online, you might still get a confirmation letter explaining you could get bumped---but it's safe to ignore that. Thanks for the interest.!
