Adams/Car FSAE 2012 Templates Update
Hey guys,
If you know about Adams, you can skip this paragraph! If you don’t, Adams is popular multi-body dynamics analysis software suite. Adams/Car is a “high-end” vehicle analysis software that most automotive companies use at their main vehicle dynamics analysis software. More info at: http://www.mscsoftware.com/Pro...CAE-Tools/Adams.aspx (http://www.mscsoftware.com/Products/CAE-Tools/Adams.aspx)
MSC provides to student competition teams the full software for free. We also make an ‘example’ FSAE model and several exercise/training materials targeted at FSAE. More info at www.mscsfotware.com/fsae (http://www.mscsfotware.com/fsae) .
Over the summer my team was lucky enough to have Reed Sullivan, the UMich team leader, as an intern. He and I (mostly him) developed some very nice additions to the FSAE materials. Here are the highlights:
New 2012 FSAE model
>Compatible with SmartDriver, out path/velocity optimization tool
>Compatible with Static Vehicle Setup, Our new corner load/ride height setup tool
>This is a ground up re-work and does not use the old templates, so redefinition would be required to covert an existing 2010 or previous model
FSAE Flex/ViewFlex Example
>Convert CAD geometry of an Upright to a Flex Body using the new ViewFlex feature (Nastran MNF generation baked into Adams)
>Additional info: Flex is an old feature the used to require generating doing a Modal Neutral analysis outside of Adams in a FEA program like Nastran, but could get FE like part flexibility (including dynamic stress) during Adams simulation. Using the new ViewFlex, the MNF generation is now more automated and done from inside Adams
Adams/Insight Exercise
>Use Insight, the Adams DOE and Optimization tool, to study the sensitivity of Roll Center height to suspension hard points locations, then optimize full vehicle turn-in behavior by manipulating front and rear roll center height
Everything can be located at the FSAE Main Directory at www.mscsoftware.com/fsae (http://www.mscsoftware.com/fsae)
If you like Adams, would like to develope your skills quickly, and want to contribute to the community, and can move or commute to Ann Arbor, MI for some length of time (i.e. a semester) , apply to be an (paid) Adams FSAE intern at MSC! Email me at joseph.little[at]mscsoftware.com for more info.
