Does the impact attenuator have to be physically tested with the front nose cone of the car attached? Or should the unit (al honeycomb, etc) be tested by itself?

Unless I missed something, that document does not answer my question. Let me restate, is the front nose cone (body work) of the car considered part of the attenuator?

Ryan,

1. As always, questions regarding the rules should be sent to katklauz@aol.com.
2. The front bodywork/nose cone does not count as part of the attenuator.

after reading the link you posted i am still facing problem in conducting test.

at the moment i dont have dynamic crash testin facilities in my university. so i like the idea of using 'press' or 'universal Testing Machine (UTM)' to condut test .

now the idea is to have same energy generation irrespective of the method, so if i am using UTM which is usually at awesomely slow speed so does it mean that using the equation of energy = 0.5X(mass)(speed)^2 ... i will have to increase load awesomely .... but i still feel, the impact characterstics should be different than slow compressive properties .... or i am missing something big time here ...
