Hi everyone,

I'm working on a magazine story about unofficial Formula SAE/Student competitions and meetups. It's about their value in the community.

There are four events I'm at least vaguely familiar with:

- Texas Autocross Weekend (Texas-Arlington)
- Toronto Shootout (Toronto)
- Big 10 Shootout (Purdue?)
- Dallesport Shootout (Oregon State)

If you know about other similar events -- international venues included -- I'd love to talk to you.

Send me a direct message. Include an email address and phone number, if possible.

This is an opportunity for Formula programs to get some coverage as the article will be published on the Web and in print.

Feel free to check my credentials here: LinkedIn Profile (http://www.linkedin.com/in/anthonysommerscasson)

Thank you!

Don't forget The Great Australian Car Swap that happens every year...

There used to be a West Coast Practice down here in Southern California before the Fontana event really got going. It was at Buttonwillow when I first attended, but moved to Fontana after that. It hasn't happened for a few years because the FSAE West event was so close, but I've heard it may make a comeback again due to the changes in the event venue.

The ZF Race Camp is held in Friedrichshafen each June.

That's solely ZF-sponsored, correct? No universities directly sponsor it?

Thanks for the reminder, too, Dr. Paasch.

FSAE Challenge in Salina, KS in mid March. Hasn't been too big in the last couple years, but there's always at least a couple midwest teams that show up. Hosted by Salina Region SCCA.

Also can't forget Formula North in Barrie, Ontario in late May. This is the first year but last I checked they were almost at max registration of 30.

Baltic Open is in Aug/Sep. Mostly around Baltic Sea costal countries (Finland/Sweden/Estonia) but DUTch Open was in The Netherlands (and 2012 event will be 600km away from Baltic Sea: Darmstadt).

Another event is annual Ice Racing in Feb/Mar. Mostly old Helsinki cars but also KTH and Braunschweig cars have been there.

Not exactly an FSAE-style event, but we had a 2-day meetup with the PROM Racing team from Athens this year in PICK (Patras International Circuit for Karts), an annual karting event at the city streets of Patras, where we did some demo laps. Photos can be found here:

In Italy there is the "ATA Test Drive" at Monza circuit.
It's at the end of April. In 2012 there will be the third edition.

Purdue is definitely the contact for the Big10 Shootout. Northwestern went as well this year with their car.
