View Full Version : suspension displacement sensors
Does anyone know of any affordable (sub $200) linear pots (or preferably lvdt) for motorsport application? I've spent a long time looking and they all seem to be ~300, which for 4 corners is out of our price range right now. I've considered using geared rotaries on the rockers/custom linkages/modified linears, but I thought I'd ask before going that route.
Has anyone built custom sensors for this application? I'd assume a good quality rotary properly set up would have acceptable transient response.. this was suggested in another thread but I don't think anyone had actually tried it.

Use Penny and Giles resistive linear pots. They will do what you need them to and the price is right.

As far as rotaries with a geared linkage, its going to be a bigger problem than its worth. You can always calibrate linear pots in your data system if you don't get them mounted 1:1 with your dampers.

I was going to say that we had the same problem last year, but then I realized it's Jake lol. Hey Jake!

Here's a paper from a guy who used rotary pots from radio shack on his formula ford car. Seemed to work well.
