Hi
What is the best/easiest coil driver to use with the Motec M4 and a GSX-R 600 with the stock coils? Thanks

I know some teams use the MoTec ignition expander, and if you are already running an M4 would be the logical first choice to investigate. Check it out http://www.motec.com/products/expansion/componen.htm

The expander opens up other outputs but does not amplify signal. I assume you are talking about the ignition amplifer required. We used a Bosch unit that MoTec recommends. It is pricey but works and works well. I believe it is the same unit as a 1998 Audi A4 1.8T. I got a generic one off vwparts.com for a cheap spare, it was around $125 vs. almost $300 for the Bosch. I originally intended to use it only for a spare and for the dyno since I was concerned about it's reliability, but it ended up getting put into service and has been working great for a long time.

We developed our own coil driver. E-mail Jim at jjj at iastate.edu if you have any questions or would like to discuss purchasing one http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hi Mike,

If you are interested in building one of your own, contact me offline. We have a set of internal drivers that we use in our ECU to drive these coils. I can get you started in the right direction. Good luck.
