Dear all,

We are a Chinese FSAE team,we are going to participate in FSC in Germany this year.

Nowadays we just have issue with the fuel rail, according to the FSC rules"The use of fuel rails made from plastic, carbon fibre or rapid prototyping flammable materials is prohibited",but because the engine we chosen is HONDA CBR600RR 2008?and we used the original motor's fuel rail and fuel pump which in my eyes were both made from plastic ?I do not know if this is rules compliant,I am a little confused.

We will appreciate that if any body could give us some useful advices in our situation.

Thanks in advance

Best Regards

This is a question you should ask the rules committee. No one on here will be able to give you a definitive answer.

-unofficial answer-

Fuel rails made from plastic are not rules compliant, so the original rail of the Honda PC40 is not rules compliant either. This rule is called the "Darmstadt rule" because TU Darmstadt set their car on fire once as a result of a molten plastic fuel rail.

Heat management in the back of an FSAE car is a lot different from the situation in a motorcycle, so the original fuel rail might not stand up to those excessive temperatures.

Try to get a Honda PC37 fuel rail (if that fits onto your engine), it's made from steel.

Zac is definitely right. Wright a detailed description of the rail you want to use. Also provide some pictures of the rail itself and how it is installed. Answers from there are definite and you can count on them. If somehow possible it would also be good, if you can provide some data of the material the rail is made of (I know that's difficult for OEM parts).

Answers on this forum are unofficial although quite some officials of the competitions are around.
