1 Brand
Continental

2 Size
Front: 195/500 R13
Rear: 245/500 R13

3 Impression
At the moment we are testing the new construction and the new compound. We have no final results. A comparisation to the Hoosier will be done in future

4 Team/Year/Competition
Lions Racing Team: Formula Student UK, Formula Student Germany

4 Why
2003/04 Continental build their first FSAE tire and tested it on our cars. We tested 4 different compounds and we won Figure 8 in Formula Student UK. Now two different constructions and a new compund were develeoped in Partnership with Continental. So we can learn alot and have the chance to give inputs for new constructions or compunds.

5 Practice
We practice with the Continental tires in order to test them.

Goodyear D2692 and D2691 (intermediate). 20 x 7 - 13.

Unfortunately haven't been able to get much of an impression off them. We got them a week before we left and had been running on the D1385 prior to that, and had 6.5" rims for that tire (slightly too narrow for the 2692).

Univ of Colorado, Boulder. Formula Buff racing. I was on the team and at competition in 05 (used Hoosier 20x7 R25a), 06 (used Avon 6.2 and 7.2 x 20 - 13 A45) and 07.

Chose the tire as Goodyear was a sponsor, and it is a brand new construction aimed for FSAE cars.

Had to use 1385 for practice (a pretty good tire in itself, and performed well) as the 2692 wasn't available at the time.

Goodyear Eagle 20x7x13 D2692 dry and D2691 wet

Great, was absolutely the best tyre to be on at both East and Australasia this year(IMHO). There is a loss in performance on the Friday events with the harder compound but on our car it is much less than the gain in enduro. Our placing in skid pan (22nd I think) is NOT a reflection of the tyre performance, we were not able to put our best foot forward for that event. (We did 5.03s on concrete in Aus with them for 2nd place).

Team - UWA / Changed to this tyre prior to East 2006. (R065 wet before the D2691 was available).
We have done the Australasian and Detroit comps for the last few years.

We did back to back testing of the new goodyear(D2692) vs the Hoosier 20x7 R25a (what we were racing on) on our '05 car after an offer from Goodyear to try their new tyres.
We looked at lap time, segmented lap time, 'GvsG' data shape and limits, time from cold to normal performance, sensitivity to 'off line' dirty surface, degridation from graining, tyre weight and driver feel( sharpness or accuracy).
The new tyre was not better in all aspects but overall we decided to make the change to Goodyear. The clincher was the car drove much straighter and could be placed on the track easier by the driver and the GG plot was much squarer giving substantial lap speed. The biggest down sides would be the tyre is more sensitive to set up and less tolerent of driver errors, ie over driving or a bad set up hurts you more.

We practice mainly on second hand Formula Ford fronts because they are the same diameter and, they are free! Just the right price for any FSAE team. Driver training and set up practice and systems or component testing is usually done on these. When looking for speed on the current car we use the proper race tyres, and when we can, the closest surface to the comp.

Pete.

1) What Brand?
Goodyear

2) What Size?
20.0x7-13 (2692)

3) What was your impression?
Overall better feel

4) Team/Year/Competition(s) Attended?
Oklahoma/07/East and West

4) Why did you choose that tire?
Started with Hooisers (design with those parameters) but did a comparison test day and switched to the Goodyears.

5) Did you buy different tires for practice?
Always train like you fight. We don't practice with something we don't intend on running.

1) What Brand?
Goodyear

2) What Size?
20.0x7-13 (2692)

3) What was your impression?
Very impressed. Tire reaches higher temps quicker in comparison to the Hoosiers. Stiffer sidewalls as well. 1st in skidpad/3rd in accel/7th in auto-x/9th in endro

4) Team/Year/Competition(s) Attended?
CSUN/07/West

4) Why did you choose that tire?
We had been running with Hoosiers for many years. I ran into one of the techs at the 06' West competition taking tire temps during the auto-x. After I heard they were developing a tire specifically for FSAE and were actually sending out people to the comps to get data, we bought a couple sets and tested them out and got good numbers with them.

5) Did you buy different tires for practice?
Nope. Tested on the same brand we were going to run.

1) Goodyear

2) 20x7-13 D2692 & D2691 R065 Intermediate

3) Switched to the Goodyear 2692 2 years ago at FSAE '06. Even in a car with a setup not for that tire it was far superior to the Avons run previously. Specifically it takes a short while longer to heat up as reported by others as well, but once to temp it is responsive with excellent grip. On practice days at ~60 F tire temps of 150 F and higher can be seen easily. Also, with the dry compound the tire does not fall off nearly as quickly as tires with softer compounds. The tire wears well as long it is not overworked and can still provide excellent performance on the 2nd and 3rd day. Dynamically keeping the tire from rolling over positive and controlling compliances will help.

4) Bearcat Motorsports - 06 FSAE, 07 FSAE (4th), 07 FSUK (4th)

Why? Because of performance, durability, and dedicated support. Goodyear has stepped up to design, test, and produce a superior FSAE/FS tire. A strong contingent of FSAE alumni and other engineers at Goodyear are collaborating with many teams to develop, test, and supply a product that is specifically geared to FSAE. This continued support is evidenced by their long time support of the competition and new products still on the way such as the 2691.

5) We practice on what we run, otherwise setting up the car would be rather difficult. Due to the durability of the tire, though, this is still economical.
