View Full Version : steering geometry
hi
if i want to keep front steer with +ve ackerman ...what method should i apply to find the geometry of the steering ( position of rack, angle between rack and tie rod ,distance between tie rod bj on upright and upper control arm bj)...
please give me direction ...how should i get these parameters

If you have a kinematics program, this is fairly easy. I use Optimum K.
Just put in some arbitrary values (within reason) and then refine and reiterate until you get something you're satisfied with.
EDIT: Some front view geometry drawings help to shorten the process.
Your racks' general position should be decided prior to this process (eg low and forward, high and rear, etc)

we usually just make a line drawing in solid works, fix a few points and push the rack left and right while watching the angles on each wheel. You can move any dimension where ever you'd like and then test it. Probably not the most refined solution, but it's easy to do.
