a Push pull switch NC when extended.

Either one of these have worked in the past:
1.) A toggle switch that is mounted perpidicular to the stroke of the pedal (to the left side of the pedal to be exact)that gets switched off as the pedal goes too far.
2.) A NON-momentary pushbutton switch that is mounted behind the pedal and gets pressed when the pedal goes too far.

we just use a miniture momentary switch from radioshack, wired up through our latching relay.
