we have to design a steering rack for our semester project. can anyone please help us that how to calculate different loads acting on it and how to calculate different parameters like length, diameter, number of teeth, gear ratio etc

So you want us to do your semester project?

(I'm not trying to be mean, but you will probably not get much response with such an open ended question. You would be better to start with what sort of constraints you need to design around, and ask for help with resources to learn about gear and linkage design.)

Just that easy (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=steering+rack+forces)

you owe me a beer...seriously.

I'm not trying to be pissy either...but it amazes me how many of these posts there are. You have the internet at your disposal. There's lots of information out there on the web itself let alone the library resources that are available as well. As large as the internet possibly is, people still manage to be either guided or stumble into our little corner and ask a question like that. It just seems so weird..

So, normally I would use the information provided to me for constraints on a project like this and then

It's discovering where the loads are actually going in a system. Some are in tension, some in compression, others are in torsion, and even more still, some are in bending.

Can you figure out which? At which times? And why?
I don't know how large the scope of your project is, and neither does anyone else here. Are you just designing the rack and pinion or the whole system including packaging. That is a huge difference.
