For next year's 13" dry tire, the D1385 and D2509 are being phased out and replaced with a new development that a handful of teams ran this year (UWA, UWM, Toledo, V Tech, UMC, NC State, Cincinatti, and Akron). This tire is a new construction and compound designed specifically with FSAE operating conditions in mind. You can inquire with those teams to get an impression of the tire.

For next year's 13" rain tire, we are considering creating a D number specifically for an intermediate tire. This tire would be based on the D1385 or D2509, then hand grooved. Based on what we saw, we feel an intermediate is the best compromise for a VDA surface with unpredictable conditions. A full (molded) wet may be available as well however since it is common with other formulas, its harder to know what the inventory will be. As most of you know, we ran out before this year's event. We are interested to hear other people's thoughts on what rain tire makes sense for your team.

For 10" tires, we still have inventory left over from our most recent build. However as this inventory shrinks we will be phasing in the D2259 (18.0x6.5-10 R075), an F500 tire.

Please let us know your thoughts in general including service at the event and anything regarding Goodyear FSAE tires.

Nick, Alan, Dan, et al...

Service at the 2006 East competition was great!! Thanks for all the hardwork, advice, and camaraderie over the past year! The new tire definitely worked well this year and have already been out autocrossing on it and getting more data.

Thanks for being a part of the team and see ya all soon.

It was great talking to Alan, he was very informative. Too bad Hoosier didn't have any one as knowledgable as him.

Given the weather conditions, having plenty of intermediates will be key.

Add Kansas, Wollongong, and A&M to teams that have competed on the new tire (FSAE West).

We are trying to get some more of the new tire built sooner rather than later (August timeframe). We have a much better chance of getting it on the build schedule if we have an idea how many schools want to try it and when they need it. Several schools have inquired about it but if you intend to test it for next year and haven't said anything, now is the time to let us know. Please email us or post to this thread. Thanks.

University of Washington is interested in testing with Goodyears, funds permitting. Likely, August timeframe.

UD has been satisfied with Hoosier and their customer service, but is not married to them. We would be interested in a compound that would be a little harder and have a little more tread life than most of the compounds currently available

A batch of 2692s are currently being manufactured. They should be in the warehouse by early next week and available for purchase through one of our distributors. It's unfortunate the USW strike occurred when it did as this delayed their build by about a month.

Hopefully it is not too late for the schools that have winters to get in some testing if they want to try them out. We recently had some schools come to our test track and the tire was performing very well even in 40deg F ambient conditions. In fact one of the schools was lapping quicker than they were in the spring (colder air = more power perhaps?). Not sure what their tire temps were though.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask on the forum or through the Goodyear FSAE email address.
