WAVE Technical Support Engineer


JOB PURPOSE

Ricardo Software produces a range of simulation products covering all aspects of fluid and mechanical simulation for automotive powertrain development.

A vacancy has arisen at Ricardo Software for a Technical Support Engineer, focusing on our customer base in Europe for the products WAVE, a 1-D Engine Performance Simulation, and WAVE-RT, a real-time engine simulation tool for testing engine control systems. Based at our offices in Shoreham-by-sea (UK), Prague (Czech Republic), or Leamington Spa (UK), this is a customer-facing role, which requires ensuring that end-user customers receive timely and high-quality customer care, and delivering their feedback to our product management and development teams. After appropriate training it is expected that the successful candidate would carry out the following tasks.

The primary responsibility is to support customer use of the products Ricardo WAVE and WAVE-RT. This includes, but is not limited to:
o providing model setup, execution and analysis,
o organising and conducting local and customer-site training courses, for which the successful candidate will need to generate training material,
o visiting Ricardo Software customers in Europe,
o ensuring timely communication regarding product updates (documentation and releases) to customer, and
o reporting customer feedback to product management and development teams.

The secondary responsibility is to assist commercial staff with:
o technical presentations and product demonstrations and
o supporting product evaluations by potential customers.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in mechanical engineering (preferably automotive) and have knowledge of fluid dynamic simulation. He/she will have good presentation skills and be able to work individually as well as part of the team. Above all, the successful candidate will be an outgoing, friendly addition to the team with excellent inter-personal skills, and would be expected to have a strong working relationship with software development staff. He/she will also be expected to be commercially aware and capable of balancing the commercial and technical needs of the product.

Technical qualifications required include, but are not limited to:
o experience running 1-D Engine Performance Simulation, ideally Ricardo WAVE,
o familiarity with applications of engine plant models for control system testing,
o a thorough understanding of internal combustion engines,
o knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems,
o a general familiarity with computer programming in C or FORTRAN, and
o knowledge of the automotive business in the field of technical software.

Personal attributes required include, but are not limited to:
o highly motivated and energetic with the ability to self-direct daily activities,
o an analytical approach to problem solving,
o excellent interpersonal communications skills, including public speaking,
o a positive, customer-focused attitude, and
o willingness to travel.

Please note that knowledge of a European language such as German, Italian, or French, though not required, would be an advantage.
