What material do people make their fuel tank sight tubes out of? Just curious as to what holds up to the gasoline as we are in the process of building our tank. Thanks.

PVC seems to hold-up pretty well over time. Our 1998 car (and all since) uses it for a sight tube and it still works fine.

what about making the whole filler neck out of clear tubing and using two clamps to hold it to the tank and hold the cap to the tube. i've seen pics of one car that did this. or would you think heat would be a factor.

UNM used a polyester braided PVC clear 1.5" tube that slips over 1.5" tubing for 3 years. The only problem we've had is that it yellows slightly over time. It works great as a filler neck and sight tube, killing two birds with one stone. Heat may be a factor if you mount the tube too close to a heat source http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

We are using the 1.5" clear tube from fuel safe. Doubles as a sight tube.

Do you know the PN for the 1.5" clear filler tube from fuel safe? All I could find was 2". Thanks for all the information so far.

NewAge Industries has a huge selection of hoses as well and they've always been excellent to deal with.

also, any industrial hose company, like one that makes hydralic lines, and gas station lines should have the tubing.

Dude, do some research. I would assume (I hope) that given a picture of an FS/FSAE car, you could point out the filler neck. So go look at pictures. There's even an ENTIRE section on these very forums devoted to posting pictures of cars and events.
Don't expect handouts.
If I'm honest, the rules do a pretty dang good job of explaining it.
