Hi Everyone,
This is an open invitation and just some quick information about some events we will be hosting and organizing for September and October.
We are working with some contacts at Mosport (http://www.mosport.com) to organize the First Annual FSAE Demonstration Time Trials at the British Emapire Motor Club's 51st Annual Indian Summer Trophy Races (including the War Bonnet Enduro)the weekend of September 17th and 18th. We are also working closely with them to host the UofT Shootout Saturday October 1st.
September 17th and 18th will be completely free with a 30 min FSAE session during the lunch break on Saturday and a 40 min session on Sunday. As an added bonus all FSAE team members will be given a track tour after racing finishes on the Saturday. Also, all FSAE members are invited to the BEMC BBQ on Saturday night. Display areas will be available in the paddock and it will be a great opportunity to interact with all members of the racing community. We are trying to get an idea of how many teams are interested in attending before we continue with the plans. If you are interested, please email me at nadia@fsae.utoronto.ca with the subject line FSAE Time Trials and I'll add you to my contact list once more information becomes available.
For the Shootout Saturday October 1st, 2005 we are hoping to host it at the Go-Kart track at Mosport. We are working hard to make it a free event for all teams, but a small cost similar to last year may be required. Once again, if you are interested email nadia@fsae.utoronto.ca with the subject line Shootout with any questions and I will add you to my contact list for the event once more information becomes available.
We will be updating our website with event information shortly. http://www.fsae.utoronto.ca
Thanks and I hope to see you in September.

30 minutes one day, 40 the next? That doesn't seem like enough time to really get much driving done, especially if there are to be driver changes. What events are planned specifically for FSAE? Can anyone comment on how the even went last year?

Scca Nationals are 9/13/2005 - 9/16/2005. Might be kinda hard for some teams to do both.

The time trials on Sept 17th and 18th at Mosport have never been held before. Its a first time event and will be used mostly for display and to get public awareness of FSAE as its being held during a major race weekend at Mosport. We didn't really expect many American teams to come to this event due to the little time on track. However any team is welcome and we were hoping for a strong Canadian presence.
If you want a lot of lap times, go to the Shootout on Oct 1st. This is the 4th year UofT is holding the event. Usually there are anywhere between 10 to 20 cars. We are hoping to get 20 to 25 teams this year as its being held at Mosport. Some of the changes include timing beacons and a dedicated track (not cones on a tarmac or parking lot). Last year we had about 300-400 laps run. We expect more this year since there will be proper timing.
As to Mike comments, its hard enough for Canadian teams to get to SCCA Nationals as it is. This provides an alternative event being held on a weekend instead of all week long and can be used to help introduce new team members as its the beginning of the school year and recruitment drives. Additionally you get access to all the other events that are happening on the weekend at Mosport.

Hi Everyone,
The Go-Kart track at Mosport has been confirmed as our venue for the 2005 Shootout Saturday October 1st. The track will be modified to make the event as safe as possible. I am working on getting a timing system set up for the event and should have more information next week. AS I mentioned previously, there will be a small cost similar to last year which will be used to cover the cost of the track rental.
If you are planning to attend and will need hotel accomodations, please send me an email. We will try and get a special rate at a hotel if teams are interested.
Updates to come.

I've been told that the Cardinal Carter team will be there, however that soon into the year we probably won't have many team members there.

which "go kart" track is this held at.
there's a new kart track that just opened this year on the outside of turn 6 (or is it turn 8, i don't remember)
then there's the DDT (driver development track) on the other side of the complex that they also run karts on.
would be great if that could be cleared up http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
thanks

Hi Everyone,
Just a quick update for the Shootout. Goodyear has confirmed their support so the fastest lap will receive a free set of tires! We have 10 cars confirmed for the event and more room to fill.
Hope to hear from more teams!

Hi Everyone,
Just a reminder to teams that the Shootout is fast approaching. In addition to the Goodyear tires, BMW Group Canada has donated more prizes for the Shootout so there is lots to be won including watches and model cars. A package will be sent out shortly to the teams that have responded including a map of the track and other insurance and waiver information.
We still have room for teams so if you are interested please email me asap, nadia@fsae.com.

Thanks U of T. The competition was a blast and had a highly competitive group of drivers/cars that made the event a nail-biter until the end.
I would recommend the competition (especially at the Mosport venue) to any team that has not yet participated.

That was the best time I've ever had behind the wheel. What a difference it is to drive on an actual track instead a coned-out parking lot...
Thanks U of T, you did a great job.
