A scrutineer is standing arround 0.5m away from your exhaust with a special microphone (a dB meter). You have to turn up the engine to arround 8000 rpm and still do under 110dB.

We newer had problems with the noise test, but I remember many teams did. Prepare a special insert (Today I've seen the brand new Akrapovic with that insert. Very simply in design but very effective!) or something like that if you fail.

if the rules are the same as FSAE it is .5 meters at a 45 degree angle level with the tailpipe (although at FSAE they weren't that precise with being at the right angle and level)and you must be under 110 dB. The RPM level varies with engine displacement, we run an F4i and had to make noise at 11,000 RPM. Hope this helps
